My students participated in the Atlantic Festivals of Music in London, Ontario this May and honestly, all the staff involved, the extra activities offered and the venue itself impressed me. My students enjoyed their time at the festival and I can safely say, learned a great deal. With a high level of professionalism surrounding all aspects of this experience I would recommend it to all school band directors.
I have been taking bands to different festivals throughout Canada and the United States for nearly 20 years. In all that time, I have never worked with such effective, thoughtful, and intelligent adjudicators as I did at the 2017 Atlantic Festival of Music. Their ability to communicate complex musical ideas to middle school students in an engaging, relatable, and skill appropriate manner was truly impressive. My students learned so much!
When asked to come back to the AFM, I jumped at the chance. It is a wonderful combination of incredibly dedicated music directors, talented and flexible ensembles, and first rate hospitality.
I am always impressed by the top notch adjudication at the AFM. The adjudicators are top in their field, and consequently the resulting clinics are exemplary. I always tell my students that I go to festivals for ME to learn something as well, the Atlantic Festival of Music never fails with this!
Thanks again for a great festival experience. We had a super time and were pleased with the friendly yet very educational comments from the adjudicators. The featured performers were also first-rate and a tremendous inspiration to the student musicians. In addition, the festival hosts that we worked with were personable and helpful.
I always look forward to taking my students to the Atlantic Festival of Music because I know they are going to have a wonderful experience. The adjudicators are of the highest caliber, and the students get to experience adjudication, clinics, concerts and a dance all in one day! This is a highly organized and well-run festival.
I choose to take my students to this festival because I know it will be a positive performance experience for the ensemble. The adjudicators at AFM relate to my students and provide meaningful, practical feedback. The evening performance by Yamaha’s sponsored artist and a featured ensemble, provides an opportunity for my students to be exposed to a level of high-quality music making. Each year we attend, the students come home with a renewed excitement about making music!

As first time participants, my bands and I felt very much welcome at the AFM, thanks to a wonderful staff. It was such a pleasure to be involved with the Atlantic Festival of Music. The staff was amazing, and the organization was top notch. I loved getting to hear so many wonderful ensembles, and work with Ron and the rest of the AFM staff. Congratulations to all involved for producing such a tremendous event.
I’m writing to express my sincere thanks for having me out at this year’s Atlantic Festival of Music. As I’ve said often, this festival is one of my favorites. There’s something about east coast hospitality that can’t be duplicated anywhere else. And, such wonderful ensembles! Loved the pace of the festival, loved the venues and the support staff.
It was such a wonderful experience to adjudicate at the Atlantic Festival of Music! The organization and logistics were amazing and all the staff were absolutely fantastic (smiles, positive attitudes, generosity, etc.).
